Hercules has always been the symbol of strength, the hero capable of extraordinary feats and even challenging the gods. But his fate is marked by a tragic mistake: he does not fall in battle, but because of a poisoned tunic that his wife Deianira gives him in good faith, without knowing that it will condemn him to a painful end.
Angelo Accardi tells this story by intertwining past and present. His sculpture combines different materials—iron, Corten steel, and cardboard—creating a contrast that recalls Hercules' dual nature: invincible yet vulnerable, glorious yet marked by his own destiny. The ancient hero thus takes on a new form, transforming himself into a symbol that transcends time and continues to speak to us today. Reinforcing this reflection on the value of art and its legacy, Hercules is accompanied by Piero Manzoni's iconic Merda d'Artista (Artist's Shit) can (1961), a work that, with its provocation, continues to question our relationship with the concept of authenticity and meaning.
