In Andy’s Crime, Angelo Accardi brings together three pillars of the pop imagination: Andy Warhol, Marilyn Monroe, and KAWS. The scene unfolds like a timeless living room where the grayscale figures contrast with the vivid cultural icons around them.
Warhol sits at the center holding a sheet filled with graphic marks reminiscent of street and neo-pop art, as if sketching the very symbols of a visual culture he helped define. Beside him, Marilyn appears as a sculptural 1950s apparition, echoing the aura of Warhol’s own screenprints.
To the right stands a KAWS Companion, instantly recognizable for its “XX” eyes, positioned like a contemporary art totem representing the latest evolution of pop language.
On the left, Accardi’s characteristic anthropomorphic animal figure watches over the scene, mediating between reality and surreal invention. Above it hangs a giant Mutti tomato can, a witty Italian reinterpretation of Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup, transforming the reference through geography and cultural context.
